Postnatal Personal Training for New Mothers

In short

After your doctor clears you to exercise post-birth, rebuilding needs to be gradual and gentle, especially around the core. Postnatal training starts with reconnecting your deep core and progresses slowly to full strength, at home so you can fit it around a newborn. Only after medical clearance.

Having a baby changes your body profoundly, and the pressure to bounce back quickly is both unhelpful and often unsafe. Your core and pelvic floor have been through a lot, and rushing straight into hard workouts can do more harm than good. The right approach after birth is patient and gradual, rebuilding from the inside out rather than chasing a pre-baby body on someone else's timeline.

We only begin once your doctor or the professional overseeing your recovery has cleared you for exercise, and we work as fitness coaches, not medical providers. From there, we start gently, reconnecting your deep core and breathing before progressing toward full strength. Training happens at home so you can fit it around feeds and naps, without arranging childcare or leaving your baby.

Why gradual matters after birth

Pregnancy and birth affect the deep core, pelvic floor and connective tissue, and these need time and the right sequence to rebuild. Jumping into intense training or heavy core work too early can set you back. We progress in stages so your foundation is solid before load increases, which is both safer and more effective.

  • We start only after your doctor clears you to exercise
  • Rebuilding begins with deep core and breathing, not crunches
  • Progression is gradual and led by how your body responds
  • We refer back to your doctor or a physio if anything needs review

Where fitness coaching fits, and where it does not

We are fitness coaches, so we help you rebuild strength and fitness safely once you are cleared. We do not diagnose or treat postnatal medical issues such as significant abdominal separation or pelvic-floor problems. If we spot signs of those, we will pause and refer you to your doctor or a women's-health physio first.

A gentle return, step by step

  1. Confirming you have medical clearance to begin exercise
  2. Reconnecting deep core, breathing and gentle whole-body movement
  3. Gradually adding light strength as your body responds well
  4. Progressing toward full strength on a timeline that suits you

Training around a newborn

A new baby makes leaving the house for a gym almost impossible, so we come to you. Sessions at home fit around feeds and naps, can be kept short on the hard days, and never require childcare. It is the most realistic way for a new mother to rebuild strength without adding stress to an already demanding time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon after birth can I start?+

Only once your doctor or the professional overseeing your recovery clears you for exercise. Timelines vary a lot between vaginal births, C-sections and individual recovery, so we always wait for that green light before beginning.

I think I have abdominal separation. Can you help?+

We can support your general rebuild once you are cleared, but significant abdominal separation should be assessed by your doctor or a women's-health physio first. We coach fitness, and we refer you to the right professional when a clinical issue needs it.

Can I really get fit with a newborn at home?+

Yes. We come to you, keep sessions short and flexible, and fit them around feeds and naps. You will not need childcare, and even short, consistent sessions rebuild strength and energy over time.

Will training help with my energy and mood?+

Gentle, appropriate exercise often helps energy, mood and sleep for new mothers, on top of rebuilding strength. We keep it realistic and never let it become another source of pressure during an already full season.
