Safety and Screening Before You Train
In short
Before you lift anything heavy, we screen you: a health-history questionnaire, a movement check, and a look at any conditions or medications that affect training. If we spot a red flag, we get you cleared by a doctor first. Good screening is why serious injuries in our sessions are so rare.
The safest rep is the one you were properly prepared for. Most gym injuries are not freak accidents, they are the predictable result of loading a body nobody bothered to check. Screening is the unglamorous step that prevents almost all of them, so we never skip it, no matter how keen you are to start.
Our screening is not a hurdle designed to scare you off. It takes one session and it makes every session after it safer and more productive. Whether you are 25 and healthy or 60 with a couple of managed conditions, we adjust the plan to your reality instead of pretending risk does not exist.
What our screening covers
- Health history: past injuries, surgeries, conditions
- Medications that affect heart rate, balance or recovery
- Movement screen for pain, restriction or instability
- Blood-pressure and readiness questions where relevant
- Lifestyle factors: sleep, stress and recent activity levels
Red flags that pause training
Certain signs mean we stop and refer before loading you: chest pain or breathlessness on exertion, dizziness or fainting, uncontrolled blood pressure, sharp or spreading pain, numbness, or a recent injury or surgery that has not been cleared.
This is not us being dramatic. These are the signals that separate a safe session from an ambulance ride, and spotting them early is exactly what you are paying a professional for.
How we make sessions safe day to day
- A quick readiness check-in at the start of every session
- Warm-ups matched to the day's exercises, never skipped
- Loads that progress only when your technique holds
- Constant coaching so form never breaks down under fatigue
- Stopping a set early if anything feels wrong, no ego
Training with a managed condition
Plenty of our clients train well with conditions like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or arthritis, once their doctor has cleared exercise and told us any limits. We coach within those limits, keep intensity sensible, and communicate with your clinician when useful. We never override medical advice to chase a faster result.
